YU Chun-wai, Toda

BIOGRAPHY

As from Toda's creation, you'll undoubtedly be bewildered by the fruitful color and pigment he uses. At that moment you may not understand why the artist is so furious. Toda gives an impromptu stroke with bold and surged brushes. It is full of strength, passion and striking roughness. By viewing Toda's paintings, you'll find he releases his emotion irregularly, but in fact, there is inner rhythm. He transfers his energy into images by painting. He changes canvas into record of the artist's motivation. He expresses his feelings directly with pigment instead of figuration and formality.

Toda Yu was born in Hong Kong in 1963. He is very fond of painting since he was a little boy and he has been working hard to improve his techniques by learning from several famous artists. He has attended Prof. Stephen Cheung's lectures for more than ten years. Toda has taken inspiration from Prof. Cheung's writing about photography and calligraphy to develop his career as an artist.
